Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located many other marked vehicles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police report early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important representative stated the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event hits the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
